Armed with little more than blind faith and an ancient turbocharged weapon, THE KID learns of justice and friendship and embarks on an incredible journey to rid the Wasteland of evil and save the girl of his dreams. Turbo Kid exudes the 80's. The music, the low-budget, the sparing yet untidy use of CGI. And it works. A lonesome kid (Munro Chambers), in post-apocalyptic wasteland, is a fan of Turbo Rider, a comic-book hero who eradicates evil. The Kid's new friend Apple (Laurence Leboeuf), and Kiwi hotshot Frederic (Aaron Jeffrey) take on ruthless ruler Zeus (Ironside), who's taken over the wastelands with a small army with a razor- wielding masked man (Edgar Wright). Sounds mad, and it is. The story's tight, flinging out twists and turns down a topsy-turvy path. Laurence and Chambers are cute, their bond growing stronger over a short period of time. Aaron Jeffrey provides the most laughs in this sci-fi comedy. And the blood. The blood reaches ridiculously high levels of insanity.<br/><br/>Imagine Mad Max, Tron, The Running Man and Braindead mixed together. The outcome would be Turbo Kid. Turbo Kid is an 80's inspired Sci-Fi film that is about an orphaned teenager in "The Wasteland", or what remains of the world after an implied nuclear war. <br/><br/>The characters are all well-rounded and lovable in their own ways, and continued to drive the plot forward. The two main actors are Laurence Lebouf and Munro Chambers, who performed excellently.<br/><br/>The only reason I did not give this film a 10/10 is because the effects, which were aimed to be cheesy for comedic effect, grew to be a little over done, but not enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth.<br/><br/>I didn't see this when it came out, but right now is it streaming on Netflix and I would highly recommend checking this awesome film out. Working from a well-worn template, Turbo Kid nonetheless delivers on all fronts. The one-note characters you’ve seen a million times still surprise with solid performances and refreshing eccentricities thrown in for good measure.
